Antonella Zanobetti, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Core Faculty in the Rutgers Health–RWJBarnabas Health Center for Climate, Health, and Healthcare at the Institute for Health. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she previously served as a Principal Research Scientist in the Department of Environmental Health and affiliated faculty at the Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment (C-CHANGE). Trained as an applied statistician and environmental epidemiologist, Dr. Zanobetti has more than two decades of experience applying advanced statistical methods to address pressing questions at the intersection of climate, air pollution, and population health.

Dr. Zanobetti is internationally recognized for her work quantifying the health impacts of air pollution, extreme temperatures, and other environmental stressors across the life course, with a particular focus on cardiovascular and respiratory disease, neurodegenerative disorders (including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and Parkinson’s disease), children’s respiratory and neurodevelopmental outcomes, and environmental health disparities. She has authored more than 280 peer‑reviewed publications and is consistently ranked among the top 1% of cited researchers in her field. Her research program, supported by multiple NIH and EPA grants as Principal Investigator or co‑investigator, has substantially advanced understanding of how air pollution and weather patterns affect human health at local, national, and global scales through the use of large administrative and cohort datasets, multi‑city and multi‑country time‑series analyses, and the integration of environmental, clinical, and geospatial data to inform climate adaptation and public health policy.

A committed collaborator and mentor, Dr. Zanobetti has played leading roles in major national and international research consortia, including the Multi‑Country Multi‑City (MCC) Collaborative Research Network and the NIH Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) program. She serves on editorial boards for several leading journals in environmental health, has contributed to U.S. EPA Integrated Science Assessments, and is a frequent advisor to national and international agencies on air quality and climate‑related health risks. At Rutgers, she is helping to build an interdisciplinary program in climate, environment, and health, mentoring trainees across medicine, epidemiology, and biostatistics, and strengthening bridges between research, clinical care, and policy.
