Dr. Ying-Yu Chao is a bilingual and bicultural Geriatric Nurse Practitioner with clinical background in rehabilitation, gerontology, and mental health. In 2018, she was the lead teaching faculty for the Rutgers School of Nursing’s first international Continuing Care Residency Program to provide long-term care education for visiting nurses. In 2019, Dr. Chao was one of the lead faculty for the Global Health Practicum to explore Chinese health care practices in China.

Dr. Chao’s programs of research are in the areas of gerontology and health disparity, especially focus on health promotion, help-seeking, and health care utilization among older immigrants with physical disability, cognitive decline, or psychological distress. She has published her research findings in several peer-reviewed journals. She serves as a peer reviewer for professional journals, conferences, and associations.

Dr. Chao is a Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR) scientist. She was selected as fellow by the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) and was recognized as a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing from the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE).

Dr. Chao received PhD degree in Nursing and M.S. degree as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner from University at Buffalo, the State University of New York. She received B.S.N. from Chang Gung University in Taiwan.
