Summer Research Internship Program: June 3rd – August 4th, 2019


This program is a 10-week internship opportunity for qualified students who would like to gain hands-on, guided and practical experience in a project related to the interdisciplinary areas of research at IFH while being introduced more holistically to research processes and possibilities. The primary goal of this summer internship program is to support junior scholars in a myriad of ways to further their research careers. While IFH represents a variety of research focuses, candidates interested in health disparities in diverse racial/ethnic populations are desired.

Over the course of the subsequent 10 weeks, you will:

• Work with IFH staff and faculty mentor to develop an area of interest/topic based on existing projects at IFH
• Attend courses once a week pertaining to topics such as:

    1. o Why Research?

 

    1. o Research career journeys

 

    1. o Research methods and study design

 

    1. o Understanding Data

 

    1. o Professional Networking

 

    1. o Resume/Cover letter writing

 

    o Interview

• Attend weekly meetings as a group in a journal club to discuss published manuscripts and working papers

Participation in this summer internship will culminate in a final poster presentation based on the individual’s topic of interest.

The internship will provide students with a $2000 stipend for the duration of the 10-week program, so they can learn while they earn. Participants are welcome to take additional summer classes and/or hold other employment during the program period. The expected time commitment per week is 20-30 hours.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for this summer internship, you must:
1. Be a graduate or undergraduate student in biomedical or social sciences;
2. Be able to commit to 20-30 hours per week in class time and coursework
