Dr. Michelle Chen, assistant professor of neurology and core faculty member at IFH’s Center for Healthy Aging, has been selected as one of the editorial fellows in Neuropsychology’s Early Career Editorial Fellowship program.

The Editorial Fellowship program is specifically geared to promote and support participation by early career scientists from historically excluded groups, to prepare them for editorial leadership.

“The reason that I eventually want to take on a leadership role on an editorial board, specifically for a neuropsychology journal, is that I want to contribute my ideas on how to improve the visibility of the articles published and advance the journal’s impact factor,” said Dr. Chen. “As neuropsychologists, we need to think about how to introduce our work to people in other fields, as our work has critical public health significance. This editorial fellowship will help me gain the experience needed to start brainstorming solutions to this problem.”

Dr. Chen’s research focuses on applications of digital technologies (e.g., smartphones, wearables) to the assessment and treatment of cognitive and other neurologic symptoms as well as modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline. Most of her research has been conducted in multiple sclerosis (MS) thus far, but Dr. Chen says she has plans to expand into other populations such as aging and dementia.

Neuropsychology® publishes original, empirical research; systematic reviews and meta-analyses; and theoretical articles on the relation between brain and human cognitive, emotional, and behavioral function.
